The NEW 2008 trailers are in!

We Do NOT rent out Trailers.
(These are New Trailers that are NOT registered (titled).  Trailers like cars, are licensed vehicles and require license plates.)

Also - believe it or not:  We do not have used Brender up trailers and I personally have never seen one!  We get calls and emails weekly looking for used Brenderup trailers.  I know that on Dreamhorse.com  have at any one-time 2-5 people looking for them.  And when I do hear of a customer who found one, they purchased it for what the seller paid for it or even a bit more!  So save your call as I do not take trade-in's of other brands of trailers nor keep a waiting list for used Brenderup trailers as the wait would be years and names in the 100's.   If anything, this does say something about the Brender Up Trailers - as they have been around for over 25 years!

pricing - We have wrestled with the pricing issues for what we do. Some people seem to always keep on at us to give them a discount or special treatment and some accept our fees. We came to believe that it was not fair to the ones who didn't try to beat us down to give discounts to the ones who do. Therefore, we established some objective criteria that we use - in our case based on the complexity of the situation, which we can judge by number of accounts, and the totals size of the assets we manage. As we've continued to grow and expanded we've evaluated every aspect of our business. Part of this process involved consulting with a number of current customers as well as some outside experts. We were very satisfied to learn that we were doing most things really well - that we deliver quality and value, that our service and guarantees are well above industry norms, and that our customer satisfaction ratings are very high. Our financial consultant has advised that we establish some clear pricing practices. Some people seem to believe that the prices I quote are the starting point for negation, and from time to time I have allowed myself to get drawn into that. That can no longer be the case. We will continue to offer high quality merchandise, personalized service and guarantees at prices that are fair, competitive and firm.  It is not fair to the customers who know I need a certain profit margin to stay in business to provide discounts to those who want to play "lets make a deal." Please, don't even ask me to do so. However, from time to time, to reduce inventory I will mark down some items. "Year End, Over Stock, Sale" and "closeout" items will be noted on the website. Thank you all for your continued support.

NEWS FLASH:  Throughout the 2007/2008 year, as we are traveling around the country picking up items for our manufacturing plant we are using the Brender up Trailer as it is sooooo easy to pull, maneuver and trails/follows our towing vehicle as if we have nothing on behind.  It is super for loading heavy items using the ramp.  But what we really have noticed is that we get 4 more MILES per gallon as compared to our old heavy-boxy-two horse trailer that we use to own - that trailer was a pain to hook up and was horrible to tow.  Now 4 miles may not sound like much... but do the math and with fuel prices the way they are this is a big HELLO!

The future is HERE with the

 Horse Trailer

Enjoy the freedom of hooking up and trailering your horse on your schedule using your current vehicle.  That’s right!  Any 6-cylinder, long-wheel-base car with  150 to 200 horsepower (for the Baron trailer) can easily pull a fully loaded Brenderup trailer!

Brenderup trailers are perfect for those equestrians who do not want to drive a full-size truck, but prefer SUVs, cars, or conversion vans.  They’re ideal for people who horse camp with pick-up-camper combinations or RVs and don’t want to invest in monster hitches designed to pull those 3+-ton loads.

Brenderup has been building trailers since 1953.  With 54 years of trailer design and manufacturing behind them, Brenderup builds one of the most economically and trouble-free trailers in the world!  Their design and development are based on how horses react and behave when being transported combined with the demands of the modern rider.

That is right... any 6 cylinder - long wheel base car with  150 or 200 horse power (for the Baron trailer) can EASILY pull a fully LOADED trailer!

NEWS FLASH:

November 2006, a 1992 Brenderup Royal trailer sold on e-bay for $7,200.00
That is what the lady paid for it new 14 years ago!
What does this tell you?  Yes, that prices have gone up, but also that Brenderup Trailers hold their value.

Can you believe that this trailer has been manufactured in the United States for over 25 years?  That’s at least as long as many of the other manufacturers who reinvent themselves every 10 years.
What does that tell you?

It tells me that the people that who own a BRENDERUP Trailer are happy.  You don't see many BRENDERUPs sitting used on dealer lots do you?  Heck just try to find one used.  The people at Brenderup don't have to spend big bucks on endorsements to make sales.  These trailers sell themselves, through the company, their dealers, and their best sales resource—their satisfied customers!

Look under any horse trailer you plan to purchase and examine the integrity and condition of the underside.  When cared for, the trailer’s under carriage should look great, as does this 1996 trailer.  Its owner lives in Wisconsin and is an avid rider who puts on many long miles driving to such far-away places as Texas, Missouri, Mississippi, Illinois, and Minnesota.  It doesn’t sit in the garage!

Considering horse camping and the costs involved?

You don't need a heavy-duty pick-up when camping with your Brenderup.  A car, SUV or RV will do just fine.

Portable panels store easily on the side of your Brenderup.  You can picket off of the Brenderup with the Hill View Farms picket arm or you can set up an electric corral or use the campground’s horse-holding facilities.
Horse camping just got a whole lot easier!

When camping with a Brenderup anything is possible.

Option 1, Tent and New Trailer.  Go camping using your current vehicle, pulling a brand new Brenderup trailer (top model) packed with a new tent for about $15,250.00

Option 2, Used Pick-up Truck With Used Gooseneck or Pick-up Camper.  A used pick-up designed to pull will cost about $20,000, a used living-quarters gooseneck about $30,000.  A used pick-up camper and bumper-pull horse trailer is about $13,000.  In either case you have between $50,000 or $33,000 invested in some form of usednot exactly what you want—setup for horse camping.

Option 3, Used RV and New Trailer.  Purchase a used RV—just how you want it—that is more roomy than camper-trailer system, loaded (including generator, AC, awning, and full bathroom and kitchen), with low miles for less than $18,000.00 and you can use it for traveling without horses, which raises its resale value.  Use this unit to pull a brand new Brenderup trailer (top model) that you can pull behind any vehicle, raising its resale value, for $15,000,.  This total package is about $33,000.

ANSWERS to questions that you may have.

How do I use a Hi-Tie or Tie-High on my Brenderup?

As you can see from the photos, this Brenderup owner customized her trailer so she could use a Hi-Tie system for picketing her horse when camping.  To use this system, she installed a metal plate on the inside of the fiberglass roof (right), and attached the Hi-Tie to the outside.  This type of reinforcement has worked very well.

I do not have a Hi-Tie but I do have the Hill View Farms Highline/tie picket arm.  Can you show a photo of this?  Yes this also works great and you can use the attachment as a high line or as a tie picket.  You need no extra parts when putting it on your trailer (click to see more about this item)

Since I cannot use the roof, how do I carry water? You can remove the saddle rack that comes standard with the Brenderup and put in a 30-gallon water tank-saddle rack combination as this customer did.  (photos lower left and below right.)  click here for more information on this tank.

Yes my car has the horsepower, but my husband says it will burn out the transmission:   What can I do?
Small vehicles with gas engines are prone to overheat if driven outside their engineered limits.  Here are the facts:  optimum engine torque is developed at a specific engine rpm for any given vehicle.  Maximum horsepower also is developed at a specific engine rpm.  (Maximum horsepower is at a higher rpm than torque.)  When pulling a BRENDERUP ensure that the engine always runs with the tachometer reading between optimum torque and maximum horsepower.  If you run at a higher rpm you may overheat the engine and at a lower rpm you may strain the transmission.  (You can always add a transmission temperature gauge if that is easier.)  Make sure you do not have your transmission set in over drive.)  The easiest way to establish suitability is by determining the available hitch class.  The BARON needs a Class III and the top of the 2-inch tow ball must be 18 inches from ground.  All other BRENDERUP models are fine with a Class II hitch set at the same height.  Check with your mechanic for the right hitch.  Remember a Class II will be perfect on all BRENDERUP trailers except the BARON and if you cannot get a Class II hitch, that vehicle cannot tow a BRENDERUP.

Where can I go to order hitches?  www.suspensionconnection.com

How come I do not need a huge pick-up to haul this trailer when the gross vehicle weight (GVW) is 5,400 lb, on the largest Brenderup?  Good question!  Basically, Brenderup trailers have different requirements for tow vehicles for the following reasons.

·         Brenderup trailers are made using lightweight and aerodynamic materials, creating less drag on your tow vehicle.

·         Brenderup trailer stalls support your horse, making him comfortable and eliminating the need for him to move constantly to keep his balance.  (This is also one of the huge, huge, stresses on a horse being transported.)  This means that the tongue weight of the Brenderup on your hitch remains constant.

·         Brenderup trailers do a better job than U.S.-made trailers of keeping the load weight balanced over the trailer’s wheels.

·         Brenderup trailers all have the inertia brake system that allow the trailer to break it self without relying on or adjusting an electric braking system.

The towing capacity of all tow vehicles sold in the U.S. is based on the weight of the trailer plus the weight of the load inside it.  On a bumper-pull trailer, that also includes the tongue weight.  On a Brenderup, the tongue weight represents 3.75% of the trailer’s actual weight, so your vehicle is towing, not carrying, your trailer.  On U.S.-made trailers, the tongue weight can easily be anywhere from 10 to 19% of the trailer’s actual weight.  The lower trailer weight combined with the lower percentage of that weight carried by the tow vehicle, is what allows a smaller, lighter vehicle to safely tow a Brenderup trailer.  Some of the vehicles suitable for towing a Brenderup trailer, but not a traditional U.S.-made bumper-pull trailers are:  any model Jeep, Ford Explorer, Edge or Envoy, Dodge Durango, GMC Acadia, and Buick Rendezvous.  The top towing vehicles in Europe are the Volvo wagon V70 and XC90; Audi A6, A8 and Q7; Land Rover LR3, BMW ML350, X3 and X5; with the Toyota Highlander being the Number 1 towing vehicle in 2007. These vehicles are based on the European standard for towing which include a 4% tongue weight and inertia brakes as part of the towing equation.  All of these vehicles have double the gross towing capacity than the exact same model in the USA.  The reason is that the standard used in the USA is based on a 20% on tongue weight and electric breaks, which require higher towing requirements.

So this is why you hear people that are towing a Brendup trailer say, “I can't even feel it,” or “I forget it’s back there,” or “It doesn’t feel like I'm towing a trailer.”  It is because your horse is secure (not banging, moving, and swaying around; getting totally stressed out) and because you have an inertia brake system and you have less than 4% of your total trailer weight sitting your hitch pushing the rear of your vehicle down and the front up.  Yes a Brenderup trailer can be pulled with a light-weight tow vehicle that is easier to handle, less expensive, and more fuel efficient -saving you money and loads of worries!

I want more information on what vehicle will tow a BrenderUp? We all have our strengths and weaknesses.  My strength is horses and knowing horseflesh.  I lack in the motor vehicle department as to what brand, model and make has what capabilities for towing.  Therefore I rely on the experts, my husband – a farmer and Chris Barr, the owner of BrenderUp USA.  Chris is the goo-roo among GOO-ROOS when it comes to what and what cannot tow a BrenderUp.  So if I am not available to answer your questions PLEASE email chris@brenderuprealtrailers.com or call 800-745-1306 and ask for Chris or his son Simon, (who is following in his fathers foot steps of greatness.) These two men are soooo helpful and are ALWAYS available to answer the tough questions.  All I know is that I LOVE this trailer – nothing compares or even comes close to it, and I’m still working on learning my cars, trucks, makes, models, gear ratio’s and towing loads, etc., to better help you select the right BrenderUP for your needs.

What size ball do you use for these trailers?  A two inch ball is needed for your vehicles hitch.

Just how much can you store for tack in the Brenderup?
This is Cathy’s Trailer.  (The right-hand photo is the off side of the trailer.)  I have a basket that contains—listed from top to bottom—my wash pail with supplies, safety leg wraps, boa boot, fanny pack, brushes, salt block, farrier tools, water pail, plastic bags, tail wrap, grain, lead rope, and, in the bottom shelf hidden by the vet box with supplies, picket line bag with all the supplies and some MREs.  To the side of this basket is my chair and roll-a-table.  Hanging above this is my horse’s fly sheet.  To the left of this basket, hanging on the wall is my bridle and halter will also hang there.  In the near side (left-hand photo), I have my tidy pocket hanging full of supplies, oil, bug sprays, yard guard, electrolytes etc.  Then I have my two saddles (western and endurance).  (In the photo they are out and Don’s saddle is there.  He took the trailer to a parade.)  Then I have my ranch handler bags and a feed bag that is loaded and ready to hang.  On the bridle hooks I hang an assortment of girths, but those went out with my saddles and Don has his girth hanging on his saddle.  Below the bottom saddle rack is my little grill.  In the center photo is the insta-box.  Here I carry my charcoal, feed and hay cubes, and miscellaneous items, such as paper and cloth towels and the trailer tire changing stuff.

In the back of the trailer (left-hand photo) I have my ranch handler cart affixed to the front wall, completely out of the horses’ way.  Loads of room up front.  Then I have my hay—in an oversize hay bag when really I only need the regular size.  But in any event that sits up front horizontal, but I moved it for the photo so you can see the front window and to get an idea how much head room there really is for the horses. The right-hand photo shows the trailer closed up for travel.  I added the incredible reflective Highway Code safety stickers—CAUTION HORSES—because so many idiots on the road do not give us horse travelers’ distance.  Two of my friends were rear-ended because of tailgaters.  (click here for more on these stickers)

So there you have it.  I can stay out for a long weekend with two horses or for over a week  with one without resupplying.   As you may have noticed I do not have water along in the trailer.  I carry that in my RV or I can haul it in milk cans up by the saddles.  I just scrunch down the collapsible muck and water bags so it will fit.  But mostly water is provided where I go and my horses are conditioned to drink from any water source.

EVEN MORE
You can use your Brenderup trailer to haul golf carts, 4-wheelers, snowmobiles, motorcycles and more!  Just run them up the ramp and secure it.

Look how easily the single SOLO Brenderup holds this motorcycle.
Now, how many trailers allow you this much flexibility?

Did you know?

Did you know that the Brender up Trailer is the only trailer that has POP Jacks?  Did you know one of the main reasons horses fail to load is due to the instability of the trailer?  With POP Jacks, you an absolutely assure that not even a giggle will happen when your horse steps onto the ramp.

Pop Jack up and with a turn are set down.

Did you know that the Brender Up Trailer is the only trailer in the world that has been tested in a wind tunnel machine.  It is due to this testing that the trailers have their unique and very designative roof lines.

Did you know that YES with the Brender Up Trailer if you want to Rhinoline the floor you can.  Just  MAKE SURE that the floor completely dry before applying the product. We do not want to trap moisture between the lining and floor. But FYI.  I have found no reason to do this as the floor is sweet the way it is.  I suppose that you could eliminate the mats by doing this...So for a used trailer that the people kept the mats, this would be a nice alternative.

WHAT?
is a BRENDERUP doing at an Auto show??

It is the ONLY trailer that our modern, energy efficient, environmentally friendly, midsize, 150-horsepower cars can pull.  That’s What!  Cool huh?

Hi Cathy,

I have viewed and enjoyed your website on several occasions.  It provided me with some valuable information.  I recently purchased my first horsetrailer - a Brenderup Prestige HB.   Unfortunately, I couldn't purchase it from you due to our locations.  I live in Pittsburgh, PA.  I have some questions about the B, and am looking for some suggestions on a couple of things.  Unfortunately, the dealer where I purchased the trailer hasn't been very helpful.  Would you be willing and have the time for a couple of questions/suggestions?  I would very much appreciate it.  As you would expect, this trailer experience is very new and somewhat overwhelming to me.  Since I'm fortunate enough to have the Mercedes of horse trailers, I want to make the most of it.  I certainly will understand if you are unable to help me.

Thanks,  Kathy

Cathy, For the most part, I will be using my Prestige HB to trailer one horse.  I would like to carry tack, etc. in the trailer.  I'm looking for suggestions/ideas on ways to setup the inside to safely utilize the unused space.  I have a groomer's door on each side of  the Trailer. I am considering the Instabox, but want to still use the extra space.  Any ideas?  What's the best way to order Brenderup accessories - through a dealer or from the factory? I would very much appreciate your input.

Thanks, Kathy
P.S. Would you please send me one of your catalogues:

We have a prestige trailer that we purchased from Fox Hunt south of Milwaukee the summer of '06 and love it. I need to get it serviced (the zerts) and we had a camera installed that isn't working. Do you service the trailers? I was happy to find a dealer in MN.

Thank you, Julia Behrenbeck

Hi Julia,  To save you money and time... What is wrong with the zerts?  All they need is grease ... you or any garage can do that outside without having to bring the trailer in.  We can easily do this if you are in the area........................As for the camera,  All electronic equipment must go to a service repair that does that work.  Can you call the manufacturer of the camera and see what they recommend?  As I can not say if the internal components are bad or just an external issue like wiring............................Call if you have questions...............Most sincerely, ~Cathy "Helping one customer at a time"

Cathy

Thanks for telling me about Brenderup trailers! My budget wouldn't allow me to get a new one from you so I looked for a used one. I found my trailer ('98 Royal) about 6 hours away from me and when I pulled it home there was some pretty bad wind and rain. I hardly noticed the wind affecting my towing (driving a Chevy Tahoe). When I stopped in the night to sleep in my truck I could feel the wind gusts shaking my parked truck.

The Brenderup pulled so easily that I would be driving along and check to make sure it was still behind me. What a pleasant experience!

My old trailer (2-horse with dressing room) is a nightmare to pull even with sway bars, I would try to avoid major highways because the trailer has a fatal attraction to semis.

I am looking forward to riding more now that I can travel safely. And it only takes about 2 min. to hook up. No more endless backing and adjusting to get right under the hitch, I can just pick up the tongue and put it on the ball.

I needed a few new small parts from Brenderup and have gotten great advise (from Simon) and prompt shipping from the factory in Texas.

Hi Cathy!

Happy Fall! I was looking at your site, and saw all the great Brenderup shots!

I wanted to mention, in case anyone asks, that the plate that braces the HiTie on mine is ¼-in. aluminum that is glued on (steel was too heavy). Then HiTie is mounted normally.

Also, I thought the B Box was too pricey, so I purchased an aluminum hitch rack ($99) from www.Target.com that is supposed to go into the vehicle hitch hole, but I turned it around and had my friend who worked at U-Haul mount it to the tongue of the B trailer. (drilled a couple of holes in the tongue arms and bolted it down using 2-in. washers) It fits perfect and does not interfere with the car when I jackknife :-P. It holds a whole bale of hay, or a partial bale plus a box of stuff. (photos attached).

ALSO, I love the saddle rack in Your BrenderUP!  Please tell me more about it! I want one!

Cathy why do you like Brenderup Trailers?    Video for slow internet connections lower quality / Video for fast internet connections great quality. and for Quick time - high speed video

Oh my gosh!  Where do I start?  First and foremost, after I bought and pulled this trailer—and naturally, I have the Baron TC, the largest with all the bells and whistles, and when it is FULLY loaded, the heaviest—it literally feels as if you are just driving, as if nothing is behind you.  I have actually been speeding down the highway (over 70) and I don’t feel the trailer.  This blows me away.

I first saw a Brenderup in 1999 when I met a customer for a saddle fit.  It was goofy looking, and to me looked like a piece of cheap crap that would fall apart.  Then she unloaded two HUGE horses—1,400 pounds.  Then I took notice of the trailer, but my only thought at that time was, “hey, at least the horses have room.”  I was SO happy to see that.

I gave no more thought to that odd trailer until 4 years ago when I met my dear friend Joan on a trail ride.  From the start I admired and respected her.  Anyone who is the image of Juli Suhr gets my full respect.  Joan is one of several role models in my life.  She is an elderly lady who continues to ride no matter what—and does it all herself.  And Joan pulls a Brenderup Royal.  I decided then to keep my eye on Joan and this funny trailer.

A year passed and I was still watching this trailer and learning about Joan, who is a world adventurer and rider.  Then I went to visit Joan in Wisconsin and ride at “her parks” with her little 13.3-hand, 800- pound Peruvian mare, Mississippi.  She said we would take her trailer, which was in the shed.  I said, “here I’ll help you hook up.”  Joan said “no,” and backed up her car, stopped, and got out.  (She pulls her Royal with a small station wagon and camps in it as well.)  Then she grabbed the trailer’s handle and moved it so she could lower the hitch onto the ball.  WHAT!!!  This old lady moved the trailer!  Okay—I was IMPRESSED.  You can actually move these trailers around?  Wow!  So Joan pulled the car and trailer out of the shed and was ready to load the horses.  I went to help her lower the ramp, figuring it would fall on her.  She said “step back” and the ramp gently glided to the ground.  Then it was time to put my fat-ass Peruvian in.  (Colina is a huge 15-hand 1,200‑pound Peruvian mare.)  I knew she would make the trailer list to the one side.  How could those little tires even support her?  As Colina walked in, the trailer DID NOT MOVE!  Now this trailer really had my attention.

As we drove down the freeway, I looked back a few times and Joan with her smart attitude said, “can’t feel it behind us, can you?”  She was right.  But the kicker for me was when I saw a huge semi come barreling up our ass…. OH BOY!  Here it comes, the infamous “Trailer Sway From the Semi.”  I grabbed the inside door handle and braced my self—feet included.  As the semi barreled by us, WE DID NOT MOVE.  Joan turned to me, chuckled and, in her croaky voice, said “thought you were going to be blown away did you?”

NOW I was thinking “How fast can I sell my two-horse—now in my mind—piece of crap trailer? (Which by the way, I can’t hook up by myself, pulls like a bitch, even with a 1-ton pickup, throws me all over the road when the wind blows and you can’t imagine the drive-by kick I get from the semis.)

Joan and I had a wonderful ride.  On the way home she swung in to a parking lot to pick up a pizza for dinner.  Just as she was turning in I yelled “Joan!  Wait!  No!” because the turn was so tight.  No one in his or her right mind would do that with a trailer on because no one would be able to make the turn.  (As anyone knows who pulls trailer you ALWAYS look for a way out BEFORE you pull in.  And if you don’t—well that’s a mistake you only make once.)  Joan, showing off as she loves to do, pulled in and did a donut, chuckling the whole time!

That was it for me.  When I got home I called Brenderup to receive their FREE DVD and was mesmerized by the technology behind their trailers.  They have been made for over 50 years in Europe and over 25 years in America, but we don’t know anything about them!  The trailer’s undercarriage, frame, and running gear are shipped in from Denmark, but the phenyl resin sides, fiberglass top, and miscellaneous accessories are U.S. made.  The trailers are assembled in Texas.  Brenderup is owned by Thule of Sweden (also owners of two U.S. hitch companies: Towv Valley and Brink).  Thule is a division of the Condover Company of London.

Why do we not see these trailers advertised more often? The company has a limited budget and will not pay the outrageous endorsement fees required for the big-name trainers to sponsor them.

Why do we not see more of these trailers for sale used?  Because the people who buy them, keep them!

Why are there not more dealers?  Because Brenderup does not offer the huge margins or perks that most dealers require to carry a  trailer.  Well, as you know, I do not sell products just for the profit.  I sell them because they are the RIGHT products for the horse or rider and my profit is the benefit of providing the consumer with a quality product that we all can be proud of.

So there you have it.  This is my story and I’m sticking to it.

THANK YOU JOAN – As always, I love you. ~  Cathy
