Merino Wool Saddle Pad: It took years to find a manufacturer to
make a custom, top quality, affordable saddle pad. At last "Ranch
Handler" was able to get the job done! This pad is made up of three
layers. The bottom is the washable Merino lambs wool fleece, then the ½"
of medium density foam felt, topped off with a moisture resistant low
loop nylon felt.
The pad is
contoured over the top line of the horse, hinged in the middle with
nylon webbing cut back in the front and
rear to prevent pinching on the horses’ spine. The entire pad has rolled
nylon edges for a clean, neat and sleek appearance. The pad comes in
black only, contoured, 28 inches in length by 35 inches opened wide,
(custom sizes available-see bottom of page on how to make a pattern of your
saddle). The pad design offered here is exclusive to the Flexible Panel
Saddle and will not help correct an ill-fitting saddle. HVF Exclusive.

Saddle Sox:
THESE ARE
GREAT. But, what are they? Saddle Sox or "booties" replace traditional
saddle pads. Slip them on the panels like a pair of socks; ride them as
long as you like, slip them off for washing. Unlike saddle pads, they
cannot become tight over the spine, they allow free airflow down the
middle of the saddle & they can’t wrinkle. They are designed very thin,
since no padding is needed under the comfortable Flex system panels.
Little maintenance or washing is needed. They last so long, that even
with all the miles we at Hill View Farms ride every year we count on one
hand the number that have worn out! They come standard with a Cordura
top layer and a polyester fleece bottom. Also available with washable
Merino lambs wool sewn into a synthetic backing for an additional
charge. The Merino wool is cooler for the horse, collects
less hair and dirt, mats less and is fantastic to wash. (With all the
sox, do rinse them twice to remove all soapy residues) The color choices
for the Cordura are black or brown. Choice for the Synthetic fleece is
black or white. The Merino Wool fleece is cream in color. Trail Sox: For the real trail rider enthusiast, try a pair of Trail Sox. These have zippered saddlebags sewn right on each side. Each bag will hold two-three bottles plus lunch. These are lined for insulation and can be opened with one hand. For contoured skirted saddles only. Color choice is brown or black. HVF Exclusive.

Words About Wool Wool is a natural fiber and is the ultimate in softness and support. Why? 1) Wool is the only fiber that adjusts to individual skin temperature, allowing your animal’s back to stay cool when it is hot and warm when it is cold acting as a natural thermostat. It does this with countless air pockets between the wool fibers that trap and keep air circulating freely next to your animal’s back, far superior to synthetic fibers because of this breathability. 2) Wool retains its superior qualities wet or dry, unlike synthetics that flatten out with wear. Wool’s crimpiness has a natural resiliency, which gives it the ability to naturally spring back to its original size and shape. 3) Wool is an extremely durable fiber. In scientific tests, wool recovered 95% of its original thickness when compressed in comparison to the 67% to 79% of synthetic substitutes. Due to wools natural qualities it can be bent over 20,000 times without breaking and because of its crimped fibers, it forms a springy cushioned support that cradles your saddle, relieving pressure points, muscle aches and back pain. 4) Wool has the ability to absorb large amounts of body moisture keeping your animal’s back comfortable. It does this with absorbent, hollow fibers that wick moisture. This maintains body temperature and eliminates the chilling that can occur to a horse’s back causing muscle cramping and distress. Remember only natural products can absorb moisture and keep your animal’s back performing to it’s maximum abilities. 5) Real 100% American Virgin Wool is the miracle fiber. We offer two selections of wool the Washable Merino wool which has a 1.25 inch pile - 55 oz wool sewn into a synthetic backing and the surgically tanned sheep skin hide that too is machine washable. Both are ivory in color. Interesting article on Pads |

English has a fuller flap |
Tacky Tack Pad: Here is the saddle pad with so many great
features that it is bound to satisfy even the most discriminating rider.
First, this pad has grip. This material is the same stuff you see being
used as shelf liners for fine crystal or under floor mats on a slippery
floor, but has an inner nylon core for strength. Due to this unique
feature of strength and grip, this pad will help keep your saddle from
slipping. Second, it is soft and supple, great for your horse’s hair
coat for it will not pull or scratch.
Third,
there is little to no maintenance. It will not trap hair or sweat. You
clean by simply spraying with water. Fourth, this pad is thin (3/8 inch
thick), soft and stretchy. It will not trap heat, so you can use it as
an under pad or as your primary pad. When used as a primary pad, the
waffle design will allow for airflow and sweat to drip away, keeping
your horse cooler and your saddle’s fleece dry. Fifth, trouble with loin
rubbing? Say good-by to that problem at last! This pad has passed with flying colors in the use as an
under pad. But remember, If you use this pad as an under pad, make sure
that you raise up the Tacky-Tack pad between your saddle’s panels so not
to bind your equine’s spine! Lastly, price, you just can’t beat it!
English and western pad measure 30 inches (spine is 27.5). The
length of flap measured from the spine to the bottom of the flap that
has a wear
strip is 18.5 inches for the western and 19.5 for the English. State English (E) or Western (W) pad. The pad
design offered here by Hill View Farms is exclusive to the Flexible
Panel Saddle and will not help correct an ill-fitting saddle. Item #

Tandem
Riding Pad/Buddy Seat:
When we first saw this pad in 1988, we knew this was the ticket. This
pad attaches to your saddle. The front nylon strap will attach to your
saddle’s D-ring and the rear strap will attach to your girth’s D-ring.
This tandem saddle pad has seen many improvements over the years. Made
of tough Cordura nylon over shock-absorbing foam, with a rigid thick
foam padded cantle to help protect the rider from injury. This pad comes
complete with stirrups and adjustable nylon leathers. Nylon straps on
the swell provide handles. We would suggest removing the nylon stirrups
for they are not a safety stirrup. The rider behind has a risk of
getting his foot through the stirrup. We used to put big saddlebags
under this pad and the very smaller rider then can put his feet in
them. If the rider is of medium size you can purchase the 4 inch
English Toe Stoppers that come with a free pair of nylon spur straps for
easy attachment to the buddy seat stirrups. For a bigger rider, you can
replace the buddy seat stirrups and nylon straps with English leathers
with irons using Toe Stoppers. Also, if you use a crupper with your
saddle and put this tandem pad on top of it, make sure that the rider is
not sitting on the buckle, for he will dig that buckle into your horse’s
spine, causing a problem.. Item # P-TM - Price Was

How do I make a pattern for a saddle sox or saddle pad? Cut a solid sheet of paper (the back of gift wrapping paper works great) the length of the panel or skirt. Set the saddle on a stand and have a helper lift up the saddle so you can slide the paper under the panel or skirt (we only need one side, so trace only one side). We also recommend that you use a blanket or pad under the paper (over the stand) making tracing easier. Then use a fine-tip "Sharpie ®"-type marker and trace the outline exactly. We will allow for seam allowances and movement room. Cut out the pattern and fit it to the panel or skirt to check fit. You MUST also locate both panel-mounting pedestals on the pattern and mark with an X; also write the saddle’s serial number and seat size on the pattern, along with your name, before sending it to us. How to trace a western saddle: Trace the skirt, lifting up drop yoke rigging. Then drop the rigging and trace around that, including the "D" ring, but stopping there. The area that will give you the most difficulty is tracing down the center of the saddle. Do your best, you will have to guess how the skirt panel flows (the center does not fit into a pocket like the back and front, so DON’T let your guess stress you out). This is your template and your saddle sox will be made exactly the way you submit your pattern. How to trace an English or endurance saddle: Trace the panel, lifting up the flap. Then drop the flap and trace around that. The area that will give you the most difficulty is tracing down the center of the saddle. Do your best; you will have to guess how the panel flows (the center does not fit into a pocket like the back and front, so DON’T let your guess stress you out). This is your template and your saddle sox will be made exactly as you submit your pattern. |
