Reminds me of a quarter horse in halter class, muscle and pride.  A drop dead beautiful head and an Arabian like eyes.  Beautiful ears.  Great strong legs.  No weaknesses.  This filly is built and is a gaiting machine.  Mostly however this filly has brio, a will of spirit that you can use for competitive events or on the trail for she has the stamina, drive and attitude.  A very smart filly with impeccable breeding.

Sex: Gelding (gelded 2/24/06)

# of foals born: N/A not applicable

Strengths or weakness, how it is: Gentle, quite, calm, strong  boned - strong horse, beautiful head set, great feet, awesome personality. Some termino but not much.  I breed for strong trail riding horses so the flashy - thin leg, long pastern, winging to the side-flying-legs that hit you when you lead them is not what you will see at my farm.  Charlie is always wanting attention and I would consider him a pocket pony... always wanting to know if you would like him to be with you.  He knows his name and comes when called.  Charlie takes shots and worming.  Excellent - so far - confirmation.  Can gait, but also I have seen a trot and he can canter.  Charlie is laid back, but outgoing and very curious but not overly enthusiastic.  Extremely well mannered and my daughter Rhea has taken him for so many walks that we have lost count.  He loves going for walks and being groomed and doted on. NO BAD HABITS.  Does not know what kicking, striking or biting is or human abuse is.  Charlie is a great at camping, loads and unloads from the trailer, wears a blanket, takes sprays, knows the verbal cues of back, whoa, stop, quit, whoa -stand, walk-on, can have he his feet done easily and when left in the stall, in the barn alone does not care. Charlie could be a loaner horse or one to forget about but his heart would be crushed, he is a lover and loves companionship. A beautiful gelding.   His dame is alive who I own and born in 1999 is sound and wonderful.  And his father born in 1994 and grandmother too on his sire side are both sound and still alive.  Charlie will make an excellent riding gelding.  Very endearing, loyal.

Status in herd: middle to upper in a herd of 18

Medical history:  7/30/05 had a growth spurt and developed epiphytes and was stalled for a month.  During this isolation time when he was kept still he developed an ulcer which was treated. After this his growth spurt normalized and he was free to romp with his siblings in the pasture. Healthy as a horse since.  Shots, wormings and hoof care all current.

Trail miles under saddle: none, but has been camping for a weekend, on picket line, with blanket and hay bag, been ponyed, over bridges, through water, mud, hwy traffic, leads, loads and backs - even out of a trailer and  travels well.  I do not start my foals under saddle until they are 3 years of age.

Price: $6,000.00 (less by $2,000.00 if you do not need a saddle)  The price that is listed is good until December of this calendar year, at which time the price will increase by $1,000.  This price increase represents the handling, training and maintenance of the horse during the year.

Color: Sorrel (chestnut) Star, and sox on coronet / fetlock on left hind leg.

Sex: Colt.  - EXCELLENT Stallion prospect - OUTSTANDING LINES.  DO NOT GELD! - but he will be your horse and you can decide.

# of foals born: N/A

Strengths or weakness, how it is:  When this colt was born I was looking for a reason to geld him... I do not need or want a stud horse.  But his strong gait, his confirmation, his disposition, his increasable head, eye and ears, his awesome head set and the way his neck comes off of his shoulder, his strength in bone and strong stand up legs - nothing weak...  and no where has he been an ass, where I say I'm going to cut him.... I can't.... His lines are the originals.... His beauty - personality and temperament all scream... that if we did not preserve his genetic potential we all would be doing a disservice to the breed.  I know it will be a couple of years before for you to use him as a stallion, but two breeding fees and your money is recouped.  This is a breeding stallion if I ever saw one, and if you want to campaign him or show him... he will stack up against the best of them.  He was named after the man who conquered Peru. Francisco Pizarro

Status in herd: Is separated with older Gelding

Medical history: All current on shots, wormings hoof care.  Nothing to report

Trail miles under saddle: N/A

Price: $4,000.00 (less by $2,000.00 if you do not need a saddle)  The price that is listed is good until December of this calendar year, at which time the price will increase by $1,000.  This price increase represents the handling, training and maintenance of the horse during the year.

Strengths or weakness, how it is: Solid, strong, big BLACK mare who loves being doted on and groomed  This is Rhea's horse, whom she raised from a yearling to a trail horse.  Sadie is an easy horse in everyway.  When riding her in a hackmoore, her gait / stride is moderate to short and  relaxed.  When riding in a Peruvian bit, she has a higher head set, drives from the rear and her reach is stronger, but she still has a tight gait compared to other Peruvians.  People often think she is an over sized Paso Fino for she has no termino to speak of and has a shorter stride.   Sadie has strong bone with a more upright pastern and is not a petite delicate horse.  She also does not canter well or can she jump easily or really well at all; she is too tight in the rear end for free loose cantering or jumping.  Sadie is an outgoing horse and willing to go anywhere and is a horse that does not excites easily.  She does not cut cattle or do speed games; she is not  good at it nor does she desire to do this.  She is a companion horse, you can show but better yet, take trail riding.  She is willing and a love.  She will cut you off as you are walking and stop just so you will  scratch her just the right spot.  Since Sadie is pure black and on her sires side there is COLOR , if you breed Sadie to any cremello, buckskin, roan or purlino  you will get a buckskin or some other beautiful color for sure.   We bred her to a pure sorrel and that is what we got for babies. Sadie is a true black. She is not a brown bay. A brown bay has brown under the belly and around the muzzle. This color may not produce a buckskin. To get a buckskin you must have a true black. Also she has the gene to produce buckskin because there are buckskins in her back ground. There is a lot of color in her background.  Buckskin takes a silver dapple gene to get the color that you want. If you bred her to a creamello or buckskin she will more than likely produce a buckskin. A Great buckskin with strong legs - bone and strong pasterns with gobs of thick mane. Sadie has NO bad habits such as biting kicking striking, rearing bucking etc.  She knows no abuse, loves treats and can do some tricks that Rhea taught her to get a treat and is always waiting for you at the gate.  Sadie does what is asked of her, she really is not an exciting mare, just a horse who blends in and is a easy keeper.  Sadie is also a very sensitive mare, so proper fitting tack is important.  Here is what happened once when we first started her under saddle and Sadie was very clearly trying to tell us that something was wrong.  We accidentally had a stick an inch long the diameter of a pencil inside the saddle pad.  When Rhea got on Sadie, she would NOT move.  Rhea kicked and kicked with bump spurs on, and Sadie did nothing, so we took the saddle off and put my saddle on and Sadie moved out great.  Then we put Rhea's saddle back on and the mare would NOT move.  As I was ready to take a crop to Sadie, I stopped to take one more GOOD look at Rhea's saddle.  Because hitting Sadie would do no good to anyone... something had to be WRONG.  I took the saddle off,  but this time took of the pad off of the panels.  The panels were great, but INSIDE the pad lay the problem inch long stick.  A stupid stick an inch long and the diameter of a pencil.  We took out the stick, put the pad back on and re-saddled Sadie who then moved out perfectly.  So if your tack is not performing, neither will Sadie.  The money from the sale of Sadie will go towards Rhea's  college tuition.  Rhea is studying dentistry and yes... Sadie has had all her dental work done too.

Status in herd: Third from top on a herd of 18

Medical history: None.  Perfect health, takes all shots wormings trimmings.  Current on all vaccinations

Trail miles under saddle: 3,000

Price: Private Treaty after the weaning of her foal. $12,000.00 (less by $2,000.00 if you do not need a saddle) Foal not for sale.  She had a jet black filly - with SKY BLUE EYES.  A very unusual and unique color - RARE after speaking to a geneticist and a Doctor who with 10 years of schooling under her belt . Since Sadie has a snip -, that is generally is considered a splash white overo gene that can throw BLUE eyes (but this it linked to more of a color  pattern as seen in paints, and neither Sadie or her parents have that.  However because Sadie has gray and buckskin color in her Sires background and knowing that Sabino is extremely common in Peruvians, most commonly shown as white ticking, stars, and socks (ie chrome). It is usually minimal solid spots, with common white ticking in Peruvians (not the same gene as roan seen in the QH, the roaning pattern of hairs in Peruvians is usually sabino pattern). This is the likly cause of Sita's blue eyes.  So even with Sadie being  BLACK with only a white snip, her Sabino background resulted, in this EXTREMELY rare, blue eyed - jet black filly in the absence of a large blaze including the eyes. And much like her mom,  All this filly "CITA" can do is Gait  with leg extension and head carriage with loads of personality. Wow.  If you purchase Sadie you will be guaranteed foals that are delivered easily and that can stand immediately.  (by the way .... in this breed many foals are so wobbly and weak that turning them out to romp after a day is impossible... many times it can take weeks.  So selecting brood mare stock is VERY important - if you want foals to stand. Filly not for sale.

MORE ON COLOR

----- Original Message ----- From: Dr. K Markley To: Hill View Farms Sent: Tuesday, June 12, 2007 9:25 AM  Subject: Re: thank you

There are four separate and distinct inherited white color patterns in horses.  All are autosomal dominant (so the effects should be apparent in each generation that carries it)with variable penetrance (phenotype in the individual varies from minimal to maximal white coat color pattern).  They are sabino, overo, tobiano, and splashed white.  There are separate genetic tests for overo and sabino for sure.  Davis has them available.  Splashed white is very uncommon, only seen in a couple of breeds.  Pattern is very disctinct.  Peruvians don't have it as a rule.

I am sure Solana and Colina carry sabino.  Their pattern of roaning and Solana's blaze are sabino for sure.   And for Sita, that is the only white pattern that makes sense.  Peruvian breeders selected against overo and tobiano, since pinto patterns weren't allowed in peruvians as a rule.  Solid colors only.  So it is incredibly unlikely that a peruvian would have either overo or tobiano, minimal or not, to pass on to their foal. But grey and chrome are highly prized in the peruvian breed, so I think people selected for the high sabino ticking as another grey looking color pattern and high socks.  Lots and lots of peruvians have at least some ticking in their coat.

Low socks and small face markings are debated as to whether that is minimal sabino or something else.  White chin spots are the calling card of sabino, as are blazes that extend wider than the bridge of the nose (the book gives more specific landmarks) and body ticking. I agree with the minimal sabino camp, and also with the folk that think there is some modifying separate gene to block white expression in some horses.  And funny shaped stars with pointy ends are highly suspicious for sabino (sita, lucia, clara).

Roan, true roan, is a separate gene altogether.  And the roaning looks different than sabino white ticking (sabino roan).  And true roan doesn't usually come with socks, funny or big blazes, chin spots and possibly solid white body patches.  Sabino comes with all those sometimes, depending on the horse.

I got an A+ in genetics.  I love genetics.  And I started to study equine color genetics for fun a few years ago

Dr. Markley

Post note:  Peruvians also have two ways to get a grey look.  The true grey, the most common color modifier in andalusian and lusitano, like Princessa.  And sabino ticking/roaning - not really grey but can look similar when you have a black with extensive sabino ticking.  But also modifies bay and chestnut.  And never becomes all grey or white with age like true grey does.
