Your horse acts-up or falls you kick your feet loose from the stirrups… but they don’t release immediately or you can’t get your feet free at all and your worst fear becomes a reality – of being dragged.TOE STOPPERS

Cathy has ridden with Toe Stoppers ever since they became available in the USA!! THEY ARE WONDERFUL! |
![]() Cathy's husband Don also rides with Toe Stoppers. Twice in one season on different horses, the horses fell. With one of the one horses, Don's foot would of been trapped if it had not been for the Toe Stopper that just seemed to "kicked his foot loose." Don rolled off to safety as the horse kept going down "like a B52-Bomber going down slow". Don's horse kept sliding down and ended up rolled onto his back. |

HELP PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING to anyone you care about. Wear a helmet and Toe Stoppers!
With her 13-year-old daughter trying to stop the terrifying events, a Brookfield woman died after something spooked her horse and it took off with her foot still entangled. The horse took off running with her foot caught, and she was dragged for a short distance. The woman's daughter went to try to help her mother and then went to find help.
Von Bank said the two were at the farm for about 45 minutes preparing to ride horses. Just as Kaye Gibowski was getting on her horse, a group of horses in a nearby corral was spooked by something, setting off a chain reaction that startled her horse.
Kaye Gibowski, 43, who was at Fox Creek Farms in Menomonee Falls with her daughter on Sunday morning, died from the head injuries she suffered in the accident, the Waukesha County medical examiner's office reported Tuesday.
Gibowski's death leaves her daughter, Abby, orphaned less than three years after the death of her father, Thomas, of cancer in 2004. Abby has two stepsisters as well as uncles, aunts and grandparents.
"My niece is left with no parents at all," said Gibowski's brother, Ken Grasse of Colgate.
The family doesn't know yet what Kaye Gibowski's wishes were for Abby, but she is being cared for by relatives.
Another brother, Kurt Grasse of Newburg, said the family is rallying around the girl.
"Whatever is best for Abby, we'll do," he said.
The accident occurred just before 11 a.m. Sunday at Fox Creek Farms, W204-N8930 Lannon Road, Menomonee Falls, said police Lt. Kevin Von Bank. Gibowski was taken to Community Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Gibowski and her daughter board a horse at the farm.
"She will be sorely missed," she said.

1/21/07 After receiving this email - below, I spoke to the customer by phone; She said that her friend was riding an English saddle with breakaway stirrup hanger bars. This ordinarily would work, but the horse spooked backwards and the rider came off over the horse’s head.
In a case like this neither a breakaway hanger bar or safety stirrups that open from the side would help any rider that comes off over the horses head!
THE ONLY thing that would prevent a dragging is TOE STOPPERS..
The one thing I know for sure is, I ride and I ride fresh and young horses. When I come off, I want to come off CLEAN. NEVER do I want to be attached to the horse.
And for those of you who worry about what others will think of you riding with Toe Stoppers, or what the barn people will say or what the folks hosting an event will say…. I say this “When will you be grown up enough to do what you want to? And stop worrying about what others will think.
This is YOUR life – not theirs. And may God help them if they get hung up if they happen to come off.
Please if you care about your life and the lives of those you love, share with them what you have learned. Practice safety – teach by example. Wear a helmet and have a set of Toe Stoppers on.

I have some questions about toe stoppers. Having recently seen my friend be dragged and now has a broken leg, I am seriously thinking about getting some of these.

A Lillian woman suffered fatal head injuries Monday after her horse became startled as she mounted for a trail ride and dragged her, her husband said.
Sherry Rae Mudra, 56, died at 3:45 a.m. Tuesday at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, said her husband, John Mudra.
Mudra said he and his wife were preparing for a trail ride near their home Monday afternoon when her horse became upset and bolted.
"Something, I don't know what, spooked him," he said Wednesday. "Just as she was getting on her horse, the horse spooked and took off. I heard her scream and saw the horse at a gallop."
He said her foot apparently caught in a stirrup, causing her to be dragged for a short distance.
Sherry Mudra was preparing for a leisurely trail ride; her husband said the accident showed the need for safety precautions in riding.
She was flown by LifeFlight helicopter ambulance to Baptist, where she died after emergency surgery.

Dear Kim,
I received your inquiry from Team Toe Stoppers: I would be happy to service you .............................Thank you for your inquiry and just so you know, THESE TOE STOPPERS are FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have personally been riding in them for over a year and twice, this year alone, (making up for lost time) my husband came off two different horses that fell down and stumbled. Each time - his feet came free and he got up and walked away. Just this weekend my brother came out and his horse got stung by bee's and bucked, he too came off with out incident. I can say enough good about this product. It is a no brainer. This Product is Mandatory for all riders. Period.

Dear Adrian,
I have just found this on the internet. (Scothorse Bulletin Board1 (1).htm) It
was from one of our customers and posted on this bulletin board of a rider being
dragged using the Peacock irons. They can still get their foot caught at the top
of the iron but with Toe Stoppers they can't. Kind regards, David
My daughter was at a riding school and had a horrific experience when the pony she was riding shied and she fell off to the side and was hung up in the iron and dragged around the arena. The saddle had those stirrups with the rubber bands on them but the band didn’t break off, and the pony finally stopped when it got to the gate. Luckily she was only bruised and scared half to death. God only knows what would have happened if the pony had tried to jump the gate! Anyhow my point is someone gave me a pair of toe stoppers to use and they are fantastic, they stop the riders foot from going forward on the iron and stop the foot from getting hooked up in the iron. I wish i had them before for my daughter. When she felt able to go back to riding she was really nervous but now with her toe stoppers she's jumping and her seat has improved and she is going great guns. I feel so much better knowing this cant ever happen again to her. I think all riding schools should have to have them on their saddles just as they have to provide proper helmets. I just wanted to share this little bit of information with all of you. I looked up their website and they have lots of information on other top riders who are using them, check it out http://www.toestoppers.com/ I would love to know if anyone else is using them. Oh yeah Megan Jones the top Eventer in Australia uses them and I saw her web site pics with them on check this site out too1 http://www.kirbypark.com/ and go to the gallery pages for Melbourne Int 3DE or Warwick World Cup or Reynella Horse Trials

Dear Teresa,
The biggest problem with the "S" Type safety iron, is that the foot can still be hooked up in the iron from the bar to the top of the iron (top to bottom). We have attached some more trial reports from other jockeys for you to look at. The Jockey trial gives you an indication of the Stats there were 68 mentioned dragging incidents out of 70 reports they all were using the S Bend so called safety iron.
With the Toe Stopper your foot can’t go any further forward and it is only as deep as the stirrup is wide.
Your rider members will find their balance and confidence will improve 100% with the Toe Stoppers and their heels automatically go down.
I have just mailed Cathy the latest DVD on Toe Stoppers it is very impressive and compelling just ask Cathy to give you a copy to show your riders. You can also direct your rider members to our web site
www.toestoppers.com and the video clip link http://www.toestoppers.com/testimonials_videos.html Also there are a few more trial reports we have about 150 of them.Kindest regards,
Adrian

Dear Teresa…………… These TOE STOPPERS are FANTASTIC! Just yesterday I was
testing a saddle that had safety irons - on a shit horse, and I could not keep
my foot in the proper position! I am at the point that I will have to take them
with me as I do my helmet! They are that good! ~ Cathy Sheets Tauer

Subject: safety stirrups
Hello,
While researching safety stirrups for my 10 year old daughter, I came across your site.
It was horrifying to read of the deaths and injuries from use of improper equipment. I would like to note a recent incident involving my daughter and her peacock "safety stirrups".
With proper sized stirrups, paddock boots without laces, helmet, gloves and eventing vest, my daughter had to emergency dismount when her pony galloped off after being frightened by two other charging horses. My daughter’s right foot got stuck in the stirrup and she was dragged 5 or 6 feet before the stirrup leather/rubber band let go. Thank God my daughter Claire was frightened but uninjured.
My complaint is that the heavy rubber bands, usually O rings or gaskets, are too strong to be undone by a 50 pound child. (We have switched to hair elastics that fly off more easily). I would like this danger to be made public.
Many thanks. Best regards, Deb Siebols

Subject: RE: Breakaway Irons
Hello Margaret
Hope you are OK, and no accident ensued from the equipment failure….Yes, we have heard similar tales (no hard evidence, just anecdotal in this case) of that product and also the one with elastic band sides….We (Association for Horsemanship Safety and Education) do recommend Toestoppers.
We use them at our campsite for all riders (3500 beginners each year) including staff, as we believe that the risks of dragging are perhaps the most dangerous related to horses (assuming other hazards are managed appropriately). They are available from most saddlers at $89.95 per pair. Have we met? I don’t recognise your name….Can I also help you with instructor or trail guide accreditation –using recognition of prior learning ? Or club training in risk management? Please let me know how you get on either way…and if you want further evidence about the dangers of the breakaway irons, the Toestopper designer may be able to give you some evidence that is more than anecdotal…I have sent him a copy of this note, so you have his contact details. His name is Adrian.
Cheers!

Subject: Breakaway Irons
Attention Nina,
I had a breakaway iron that broke away when it shouldn't have. Are you aware of any similar incidents. Also I noticed on your site you mention Toe Stoppers, can you tell me more about them and if you have used them?
Thank you for your time,
Margaret Ferguson
